It was Christmas day, and I stepped out on a still quiet night for a 1.1 mile walk in my hometown.
Along the way I passed the junior college where my parents met over 40 years ago. I shed tears as I passed the warehouse where my dad worked nights, while he farmed days trying to make ends meet in the early 80's. It was quite along highway 81, the only traffic pulling in and out of the gas station. For once I wished that there weren't so many of those darn lighted snowflakes attached to every other light pole... the light from those snowflakes polluted the vision I sought in the clear starry Kansas night.
It was good to take a few minutes for myself in the midst of the wrapping paper, goodies, carols, and noisy toys (yes, I'm actually the mom who gave her son a set of bongos... what was I thinking?) Thanks to the husband who took the kids to the pool, so I could be 1 step closer 2 a quiet moment, a stretch of my legs and a thankful heart for this town, my family and most of all my Savior, Christ Jesus. Merry Christmas!
