It's so much more common to let a mind wander through memories when walking alone, than when walking with someone else. Don't get me wrong, I love walking with my husband, but today I drove to the nearby nature center and took the longest loop possible.
Along the way I saw a thorny tree that reminded me of when I was a girl riding our horse in a grove of trees. I lost control of DJ and a thorny tree caught my arm and made it one memorable ride!
I stopped and looked over the pond where we've taken the kids for years along with stale bread to feed the fish and turtles.
I smiled to remember walking there with friends on warm summer nights as the sun set.
I prayed for the Stephen Minister with whom I work, I cried over friends long lost to moves or death. It was all good, especially since I made it 1.7 miles, and now am less than 5 miles away from my 15 mile goal for the week. Some memories hurt, some bring joy, but being 1 step closer 2 them is a good thing in the end.
